Sea buckthorn
History and origin
Sea buckthorn, a thorny shrub of the Eleagnacaceae family, grows in temperate zones of Europe and Asia, as well as at altitude in certain subtropical regions of Asia. Present for millennia, it was appreciated by the ancient Greeks and in traditional Chinese medicine for its berries with medicinal properties. Known for their healing and regenerative properties, these berries were used to strengthen health and promote healing. Even today, sea buckthorn continues to fascinate with its multiple benefits, rooted in a rich tradition that crosses continents and centuries.
Variety and cultivation
Sea buckthorn, resistant to extreme temperatures (-43°C to +40°C), helps prevent erosion thanks to its deep roots. It fruits after three years and reaches its maximum yield after seven to eight years. Cultivated naturally or planted, it adapts to coastal dunes and mountain ranges in France.

During the Seoul Olympic Games (1988), two sea buckthorn-based drinks (Shawikang and Jianibao) were approved as official drinks for Chinese athletes.
